Edo Zylstra PT, DPT

Founder, Owner

Doctor of Physiotherapy

Background

Dr. Zylstra is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy. He earned his Masters of Physical Therapy at Regis University in 1999 and his Doctorate from Regis in 2012. He worked as a staff physical therapist in a specialty pain and spine injury clinic in the Denver area for several years before establishing a successful outpatient Physical Therapy practice in Brighton, Colorado, in 2005. The family moved to Michigan in 2013. At this time, he opened a part-time cash pay practice in Byron Center, Michigan. As of January 2021, he moved the clinic to Hudsonville where he currently practices.

Profession

Dr. Zylstra founded a physical therapy education company, KinetaCore (now part of Evidence in Motion), in 2006. His desire was to share his Functional Dry Needling© techniques with other therapists who wanted to help their patients return to their daily activities more quickly. From a love of teaching dry needling and advocating for its acceptance across the United States, he currently teaches foundational, clinical, and advanced level courses throughout the US and Canada.

Experience

Dr. Zylstra has over 20 years of experience in orthopedics, pre-/post- surgical care, sports performance, wellness training, chronic pain treatment, and injury prevention. He works with patients of all ages and across all activity levels. From 2014 to 2020, he served as a delegate for the Michigan chapter of the House of Delegates of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), which allowed him the opportunity to serve the profession and statewide patient care by advocating for policy change.

Treatment

Edo evaluates and treats from a whole-body approach. His treatment combines knowledge and understanding of anatomy and function within the context of full body structure, function, and movement patterns. He works to restore compromised mobility, strength, stability, and movement patterning. This is achieved through various manual techniques, active modalities, progressive exercise, and education. Edo also enjoys building a solid rapport with his patients and clients, including clinical problem-solving and watching them progress to the activities and level of function they desire.

Edo never tires of learning new treatment and training techniques, perspectives, and the latest advances in physical therapy. He is excited to treat patients in West Michigan at his new clinic in Hudsonville. When not practicing physical therapy, Edo enjoys spending time at the lake, paddle boarding, reading, hiking, and being with his wife, Christi, and their adult children.

Tyler Waterway PT, DPT

Co-Owner & CEO

Doctor of Physiotherapy

Background

Dr. Tyler Waterway graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s in kinesiology and went on to earn his doctorate in physical therapy from Missouri State University. He is the co-founder of Tactical Physiotherapy and co-owner of KinetaCare Physiotherapy, where his work is focused on advancing a model of care that identifies and addresses the root causes of pain and dysfunction.

Experience

Dr. Waterway has over nine years of experience in dry needling and has completed advanced training through KinetaCore and Evidence In Motion’s Functional Dry Needling® program.

He specializes in working with athletes of all levels, particularly in gymnastics and high-performance populations. At KinetaCare Physiotherapy, he developed the Injury Risk Profile (IRP), an assessment system designed to identify movement limitations and guide targeted strengthening and injury prevention strategies. He is also the co-developer of the Radiculopathic Model of Orthopedics alongside Dr. Edo Zylstra, contributing to clinical framework development and education within Tactical Physiotherapy. His background includes extensive mentorship in dry needling, manual therapy, movement-based interventions, and experience as a gross anatomy teaching assistant during his graduate training.

Treatment

Dr. Waterway employs a structured, movement-based treatment approach focused on identifying and addressing the mechanical and neurological drivers of pain rather than managing symptoms in isolation. His process begins with detailed assessment and objective reassessment to guide targeted intervention.

Treatment plans are designed to reduce reliance on ongoing care by equipping clients with the tools needed for long-term independence. His approach integrates manual therapy, Functional Dry Needling, Blood Flow Restriction therapy, StemWave, Class IV Cold Laser, and comprehensive movement assessment, alongside guidance in nutrition, sleep, habits, and progressive strengthening. The goal is not only pain reduction but restoration of function and long-term performance.

Today

Born and raised in Holland, Michigan, Dr. Waterway lives in Hudsonville with his wife Ellen and their two daughters. He remains active in strength and endurance training, with a current focus on triathlon preparation.

Dr. Waterway is committed to advancing physiotherapy through system-based clinical models, education, and research-informed practice. Grounded in a Christ-centered conviction, his work is focused on helping individuals move and function with greater freedom while equipping clinicians to deliver more precise and effective care.
